Frequently Asked Questions About COREG CR

  • What is a beta-blocker?

  • Beta-blockers are a type of medicine used to treat people with high blood pressure (also called hypertension). People who have had a heart attack that reduced how well their heart pumps, or who have heart failure, may also take a beta-blocker. These conditions put extra strain on your heart by causing it to work harder than normal to pump blood throughout your body. This increases the strain on your heart. Beta-blockers work by blocking a hormone in your body that can raise your blood pressure and heart rate. By blocking this hormone, beta-blockers bring your blood pressure and heart rate down and slow the rate that your heart weakens.
